Weekly Update – 4/25/2016
We’re in Compton!
Located in southern Los Angeles County, Compton is one of the oldest cities in the county, incorporating on May 11, 1888. Compton was recently designated as an “Entrepreneurial Hot Spot” by Cognetics, Inc., and many rap artists’ careers started in Compton, including N.W.A (Eazy-E, MC Ren, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, DJ Yella), DJ Quik, Nishant, Jeeves, The Game, and Kendrick Lamar.
Progress:
We’ve run 8.5 miles.
We ran 8.5 miles in the past week.
We have 11.5 miles until Los Angeles and 586.5 until Sacramento.
If we ran at this pace for 2 weeks we’d be in LA, and in 70 weeks we’d be at the capital.
Featured Run: Portuguese Bend
A 400 acre park, Portuguese Bend is the largest area of natural vegetation remaining on the Palos Verdes Peninsula with a network of trails covering beautiful ocean-facing hillsides, canyons, and ridges.
The peninsula, which was an island with the Palos Verdes Hills in recent geological time, has close floral and faunal similarities to the Channel Islands. This feature makes the Portuguese Bend Landslide area a natural research laboratory for the study of island biogeography and evolutionary ecology.
